Create a window-watching spot

A comfortable view with a safe way up and down.

Pawno editorial · 20 min · Published 6 October 2026

The useful starting point

Keep the first attempt simple. Let your pet choose whether to engage, and use their response to decide what to try next.

Set it up

Choose a secure window with a useful view and a stable resting surface. Check blinds, cords and screens before adding a bed. Your cat should be able to approach and leave without being cornered by another pet.

Make it work for your pet

Offer a lower step if the surface is high. Try a soft washable cover and observe whether the cat chooses it. If outdoor animals cause repeated agitation, provide a different view or partially screen the window.

Keep it comfortable and safe

A flyscreen alone may not prevent a fall. Secure openings and keep blind cords inaccessible. In warm weather, provide shade and a cooler alternative.

A quick review afterwards

Notice what your pet chose, what they avoided and what made the task easier. Keep one useful observation for next time rather than trying to perfect everything in a single day. A routine you can repeat calmly is more valuable than an elaborate setup that becomes another chore.
